#WeGoToSchool Winners Announced!

September’s coming to an end, and students and teachers have settled into their classrooms for the year – which means it’s time to announce the winners of Staples’ and ME to WE’s #WeGoToSchool Contest!

We were overwhelmed by the response! Changemakers from all over the world posted their submissions online, telling us all about how they plan on changing the world this year. While there were so many amazing entries, three stood out to us in particular.

SM-Posts-for-Staples-Contest_2014-PrizePackWe are excited to announce that the first place prizewinners of the #WeGoToSchool Contest are Instagram user Ethel Nalule and her friend Kayla! Ethel Instagrammed an amazing photo of her and Kayla at an Activate forum they attended together recently. In her submission, she talks about how she and Kayla are so passionate about physical activity, and after attending the forum together, they created an action plan. “We are organizing a camp for kids where we will teach them about mental health and healthy eating, as well as engaging them in fun physical activities.” We love how Ethel and Kayla are using their passion for physical activity to create change, and we hope that their new ME to WE supplies will help them plan for their camp!

The second-place prizewinner is an educator who cares! Naomi McCulloch is a Grade 2 teacher who is encouraging her students to fundraise for Free The Children’s Year of Empowerment. She is encouraging her students to fundraise for goats, which will provide nutrition and income for families in developing communities. She even told them that for every goat they raise money for, she will match their donation! We are so inspired that she is teaching her young students how to give back to others!

The third-place prizewinner really inspired us with her unique passion, and plan to give back. Twitter user @IdealistPhoenix tweeted us (very fitting!) to tell us about her passion for exotic birds! She has started volunteering at an exotic bird rescue centre, and is amazed at the rehabilitation work they do. To further give back to these animals, she has challenged herself to fundraise for the bird rescue, since they need a new centre. We definitely agree with @IdealistPhoenix when she says, “#WeGoToSchool to learn how to share and pursue our passions!”

We are so motivated to take action after seeing all of your amazing submissions, congratulations to all of the winners!
