Scott Hammell has been entertaining professionally since 1998. In high school, Scott's ability to entertain and encourage his fellow students led him to be voted onto the Student Council each year. As Scott continued to develop his skills as a magician and entertainer, he was convinced by a supportive activities director that he was "more than just a busker" who should pursue motivational speaking and entertaining as a full-time career.
Just weeks after Scott's high school graduation he was featured on Ripley's Believe It or Not for his "Escape to Cloud Nine" stunt which awarded him his first Guinness World Record (World's Highest Suspension Straight Jacket Escape). For this stunt Scott went up to an altitude of over 7,200 feet in a hot air balloon and was suspended by his ankles. Hanging upside-down, he released himself from a regulation straight jacket and over 50 feet of steel chain, which was secured with four pad locks. All of this and he was afraid of heights! This successful stunt landed Scott numerous other television appearances and helped continue to launch his professional career in entertainment and speaking.
In 2009 Scott started working on his next major stunt. He decided that the most effective way to conquer his fear of heights was to pack his bags and head to southern California to learn to skydive. To officially celebrate overcoming his fear, Scott decided to get locked inside of a pair of Smith and Wesson 100 Handcuffs (the number one handcuff used by law enforcement in North America) and jump from a plane flying at 13 000 feet.
That was the plan until the lawyers representing the drop zone deemed the stunt as "too dangerous." Scott viewed this as an opportunity to turn something sour into something sweet and went on to give free falling a try.
Today Scott continues to work as a travelling magician, hypnotist, professional escape artist and motivational speaker, sharing his messages and experiences with hundreds of thousands of people. His presentations are fused with heart racing tricks and stunts topped with comic relief. Now with three Guinness World Record's under his belt and his sights set on conquering more, Scott's drive to push himself and inspire others to do the same is sending him around the world.
His attempt to skydive well handcuffed remains of a top priority for Scott and with a jump site in Hamilton willing to accept the challenge Scott has committed to performing the stunt in the spring of 2010. To top off the stunt, Scott decided while speaking with students at a local high school, he would attempt the stunt not only handcuffed but blindfolded as well, making him the first known person in the world to attempt this. This stunt was a challenge to the students, that if they could raise enough money to build a school In Ecuador he could do this stunt blindfolded.
