The Rafiki Friend Chains are stretchy glass-bead chains that can be worn as a bracelet, anklet or necklace. Each one is on stretchy elastin cord for easy, comfortable wear. These pieces are inspired by the long chains worn by Maasai warriors, who traditionally wear strands of beads around the body with one arm pulled through. Named for friendship, the Rafiki Chains symbolize celebration and the unity between friends.
"Lala salama" is Swahili for "good night" or "peaceful sleep"–the equivalent of "sweet dreams. Glass beads are stitched onto genuine leather to create a beautiful circle-of-life pattern on the Salama Peace Ring. A ring is an important part of Me to We’s Maasai Collection because it is worn on the hands and reminds us of the hardworking artisans whose very survival and life depends on their skills. Rings are made from genuine leather and glass beads in a variety of colours and Maasai designs. The leather discs are cut from genuine leather in Kibera, Nairobi, bringing alternative income to two urban artisans.
