Embellished with a hand-beaded clasp and lined in Me to We Artisans signature cotton kanga cloth, the envelope-style Denim Safari Clutch is inspired and made by the women of the Maasai Mara.
The darker denim is a classic Kenyan-sourced denim, while the lighter denim is made of pre-loved jeans.
The glass beads on the embellished clasp are stitched using traditional techniques. The beaded clasps come in seven unique and versatile colour combinations: classic white; shiny brown with mother-of-pearl and a fun black-and-white outline; brushed silver with mother-of-pearl and art deco-style black and white rice beads; sophisticated black, shiny blue, beige and brown; a classic Maasai orange-and-green wheel symbolizing balance in nature; a classic seven-colour Maasai design with mother-of-pearl; and a funky mix of pewter with three lines of Maasai blue.
Kanga is a common cloth worn by rural women, knotted over their shoulders, and includes Swahili and Arabic symbols.
The finished piece is assembled by a women's cooperative of skilled sewers who are able to help support their families as working artisans.
