ABOUT ME TO WE PARENTS

What is Me to We Parents?

A THRIVING ONLINE COMMUNITY FOR LIKE-MINDED ADULTS

Welcome to our new Me to We Families website.

This isn’t where you come to learn how to groom your child to get into an Ivy League school; or to help her spruce up her resume with community service credits; nor is it a mommy blog (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

This is a place for moms, absolutely, but also dads, grannies and papas, and teachers, coaches and mentors.

This is a place to come if you want to discuss how to help your kid to care about the world, and maybe even make a difference --- large and very possibly small, but a difference, all the same. It’s about everything from nurturing empathy to doling out allowance in exchange for chores – should you or shouldn’t you --- to paying attention when your kid tells you that all is not right with the world and she wants to change something. It’s especially about nurturing global citizens.

Raising the next generation is not easy. As one wise parent told us: “Lower your expectations and it will all be a lot easier.”

But that doesn’t mean we can’t try to raise kids who are compassionate, kids who care.

It will have a greater impact than almost anything else we do in life.

The new book, The World Needs Your Kid: How to raise children who care and contribute, inspires this site. It was released in the fall of 2010 by Me to We Books and Greystone.

This site is meant to be our community. We will feature regular parent bloggers who will post on topics ranging from how to add service to your family’s social calendar to how to focus your family’s activities, what’s new in the world of parenting, how to be a “Service Mom” instead of a Soccer Mom.

Thanks to your contributions of stories, recipes, insights and personal reflections, Me to We Parents gives like-minded adults a chance to connect and support each other as we celebrate the joys of raising kids who care.

The World Needs Your Kid

Bring home the change

Authors Craig and Marc Kielburger and Shelley Page explore how to raise socially-conscious kids by drawing on their childhoods, life experience and lessons from Canadian celebrities like Sarah Polley and Steve Nash and international personalities like Jane Fonda, Mia Farrow and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Through these personal accounts, inspirational life lessons and simple, everyday tips, this interactive guide demonstrates how small actions can make a huge difference in helping kids become compassionate, active global citizens. For every Me to We Book purchased, a book will be given to a child in a developing country.
