Me to We is a philosophy that is both ageless and universal. Reaching out to others can change your life. It can also change the world.
So who are we?
To answer this, we have to look back at where we came from.
In 1995, 12-year-old Craig Kielburger had his eyes opened to the harsh realities of child labour. Visiting South Asia and some of the poorest places in the world, he felt a call to action, to stand up and give a voice to the voiceless when no one else would.
Craig and the youth of Free The Children brought international attention to these issues, but just as importantly, they showed the world that young people can and do have the power to create real change in the world.
Free The Children grew at an exponential rate, rallying youth worldwide to take action at home and reach out to their peers in impoverished countries. Yet Craig, along with his brother Marc, saw that while young people possessed awe-inspiring passion to help others, few had the practical tools to translate their desires into action.
With the founding of Leaders Today, they provided the education, training, curriculum, overseas trips and resources to empower youth to launch their own shamelessly idealistic initiatives. Soon schools were built and health care was being provided. Volunteers were connecting with communities overseas in places like Kenya, Ecuador, China and more.
Marc, Craig and an energetic team of facilitators helped show young people they didn’t have to wait to be the “leaders of tomorrow”—they could start changing the world right now.
Today Free The Children is the largest network of children helping children. The organization has received innumerable awards, been featured in the world’s largest media outlets and created friendships with such leading partners as Oprah’s Angel Network.
It’s been an incredible journey of reaching out to people of all ages, showing them how one small spark of inspiration can change the world.
Me to We is the next stage in this evolution.
In their busy travels, Marc and Craig have had the opportunity to met celebrities, spiritual leaders and heads of state. They’ve also gotten to know people living in some of the world’s most impoverished and dangerous conditions.
But time and time again, they’ve discovered one simple universal truth: individual actions do make a difference, and through these acts we benefit our communities, our selves and our world.
Identifying the need for an alternative to the usual choices, they founded the Me to We family of social enterprises. Music, books, trips, clothing—a shamelessly idealistic new way of living, every day.
The Me to We phenomenon has spread like wildfire. Now it’s time to push the envelope even further, defying the status quo and creating an international movement.
It’s been thirteen years of one continuous mission, pushing forward the boundaries of charity, philanthropy, social justice, giving, helping and creating change. We’ve challenging conceived ideas about charity and society, forged powerful partnerships with some of today’s most exciting innovators and seen thousands of kids on the edges of their seats, shouting at the top of their lungs their desire to make a difference.
As our adventure continues, we invite you to join the Me to We movement and get ready to change the world.
