Beijing Highlights

What an adventure! We are here in Beijing with ME to WE, and it has been an awesome trip so far. It’s been fun, inspirational, and definitely a refreshing experience.

A highlight that I really enjoyed was exploring the forbidden city with local Chinese students! It was beautiful and I loved the architecture and the colors used in the designs. It was inspiring to think that these complex structures have stood the test of time for over 500 years!

We also got the amazing opportunity to buddy up with a local student – this really helped me learn about their culture a lot more. The student I was paired with was so awesome! We got to work together on traditional Chinese calligraphy printing—it was tough, but we rocked it with teamwork! I really bonded with her and I promised that if she ever visited Canada, I would show her around the city and educate her about Canadian culture.

My final highlight was when we went to visit a community that ME to WE is currently working in. I met a lot of nice children, but three stood out to me in particular. I became buddies with two little girls and a young boy that were complete cuties! They were really sweet and loved to hold my hands. We had so much fun playing together, they sure had a lot of energy!

While there have been many highlights, my absolute favorite part of the trip was meeting the local students and farmers—everyone was so friendly and generous, and willing to share their culture with us. It’s been an amazing trip so far, with more adventures to come!
