Introducing the Water Rafiki Friend Chain

You’re probably starting to see them everywhere—on your friends’ wrists and around their necks. These beautiful blue strands of beads. You’ve probably heard that they were handmade with love by the Maasai mamas of Kenya, which helps provide the mamas with an all-important income.

And these particular chains have a special meaning. Water—clean water, to be exact.

Me to We’s limited edition Water Rafiki Friend Chain is a new take on the classic Rafiki Friend Chain and last year’s Rafiki Friend of East Africa Chain, which, thanks to your overwhelming support, helped feed 35,000 people in the wake of one of East Africa’s worst droughts.

How Does it Work?

Proceeds from the $10 Water Rafiki support Free The Children’s year-long Water Initiative, which aims to provide permanent access to clean water for 100,000 people around the world. By wearing the chain—and getting all your friends and family to wear one too—you can help Free The Children reach its goal.

One chain equals one year of clean water for one person. It’s that easy.

How important is that? Well, more than 780 million people in the world live nowhere near a source of safe drinking water. In some countries, every day, women and girls spend a collective total of 200 million hours carrying water from the nearest water source to their homes for their families. (That’s time that could be spent learning, earning a living and creating a better future.)

What You Can Do

Spencer West and Water RafikiWith your support, we can help thousands of families get a permanent, reliable source of clean, healthy water. This means so much to a mother who can earn a living, to a boy who can stay healthy, to a girl who can go to school and to a family whose crops can now flourish.

Just imagine the impact of providing access to clean water for 100,000 people. It’s huge.

Remember: One chain. One year. One person. No wonder you’re seeing Water Rafikis everywhere.
